Bambu Indah Hotel is a boutique eco-luxury hotel located in a small village called Baung, which is very close to Ubud. It is situated a few kilometres west of the centre of the main area and if you are coming from Denpasar airport it will take you approximately 1 hour drive.
In 2005, John and Cynthia Hardy opened the doors to this beautiful location and it is still welcoming new and old guests to this day. The owners aren’t just hoteliers, they are artists, philanthropists and clearly very savvy business people. John and Cynthia have been living in Bali for many years and have involved themselves in many projects that give back to the community, so it was a natural progression for them to provide somewhere for others to come and stay to take in everything Bali has to offer.
The thing that sets Bambu Indah apart from other hotels in the area is the focus on the responsibility of eco friendly living. You will have every mod con you need during your stay but there are a few changes that you may not usually see during your holidays. To cut back on water usage, towels are only replaced every 5 days. All the waste is recycled, reused and re-appropriated where possible and organic insect repellant is used to keep the mosquitos at away. Of course there are so many other things they do behind the scenes also and it is all this hard work on being kind to the earth that snagged them the crown for the 2013 HICAP Sustainable Operations Award.
Bambu Indah translates to ‘beautiful bamboo‘ and that is exactly what it is. The structures you will stay in are expertly designed and architecturally spectacular. There are 10 houses to choose from and all with equally spectacular views of rain forest and rice fields. You’ll hear trickling sounds of the stream that leads into the natural water rock pool and you will be able to stroll through the organic herb and veggie patch.
Dining at Bambu Indah is also an eco friendly experience with all the produce being locally and ethically sourced and grown on site. Everything at Dapoer restaurant is organic and the recipes have been passed down through local families over many years. The cuisine is traditional Indonesian with a few international bits and pieces thrown into the mix. Afternoon tea comes complimntary from the staff and is served while the glorious Balinese sun sets over the horizon.
There are so many things you can be do during your time here including – swimming, village hikes, bamboo tours, green school tours, the Bambu Indah Spa, Balinese blessings and a tour of the John Hardy Jewellery Factory.
