Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park spans across a huge 240 hectares of land located in Ungasan in the Badung Regency that is approximately 15 minutes drive from Bali’s international airport. Named after the Hindu god Wisnu, the park features him quite thoroughly throughout.
At the park there is a statue of Garuda Wisnu which is the main attraction standing at an epic height of 120 meters and 64 metres wide. Once erected, this will be the biggest artistic masterpieces in Indonesian history showing the strong importance of religion and local culture. Mr. I Nyoman Nuarta, one of the owners of the park was responsible for commissioning several sculptors to put together this gigantic structure. The implementation of this park and all of its sights has really brought a lot of business to this area and for that the locals are very happy and busy.
If you fancy it you can book your group a Segway tour and you will spend the day zipping around the huge park without breaking much of a sweat, and the two wheeled machines are loads of fun if you haven’t tried them out before. Shuttle busses are available from most main areas and hotels or there is a private cark park if you do happen to hire a driver for the day.
We suggest spending a good couple of hours exploring the grounds of the cultural park and then retiring to either of the two restaurants within the complex. Jendela Bali, The Panoramic Restaurant serves authentic Balinese cuisine and is situated high above the park providing you stunning panoramic views of the huge grounds you have just visited below. The lastest addition to Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park is The New Beranda Restaurant and has equally stunning views too. Expect fantastic value for money and totally scrumptious food all in a really modern setting. Make sure you call in a booking for both venues if your group is quite large – trust us, you don’t want to miss out!
Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park aims to educate everyone especially future generations about the importance of preserving their cultural heritage and is open 7 days a week from 8am until 10pm.
