Jatiluwih Rice Terraces are located in central Bali in a place called Tabanan. The terraces sit at 7000 meters above sea level and together they make one of the most picturesque landscapes in Indonesia. It is for this reason that tourists come from all over the world to visit and photograph the incredible panoramic views.

With the naturally luscious forest and the towering Mount Batukaru as its backdrop, Jatiluwih Rice Terraces has been nominated for a UNESCO World Heritage Site designation. This truly breathtaking area is not only stunning to see but also a functional and very important part of the local agriculture. This destination currently sits in the top 10 things to do list in Bali, so it is well worth the trip!

As the altitude is quite considerably higher than most of Bali, the temperature drops lower than what you might be used to, so pack an extra layer if you are visiting this site. The architectural nature of the curved rice fields has to be seen up close to be believed and that bright green glow stretches as far as the eye can see. Unfortunately the natural beauty could be under threat with talks of the area becoming developed by investors wanting to build accommodation. Laws are currently being put into place to remedy this so that there can be an agreement made.

We suggest getting a driver for the day so you are able to explore the small farming villages that are around the Tabanan area. It will also make it easier for you to get to and from the Denpasar/Seminyak area which is located 48 kilometres south of Jatiluwih Rice Terraces. The attraction site has a car park, bathrooms and a restaurant where you can stop for a break and a bite to eat.
