Pod Chocolate Factory and Café can be found in Ubud, nestled amongst luxuriant jungle and lush rice paddies with a herd of Sumatran elephants next door. It is the perfect place to take the whole family to learn about how chocolate is made, sample delicious treats and then relax at their in-house café. The chocolate is so good that you’ll find it in Bali’s top restaurants and hotels, and its incredible flavour is owed to the location’s distinct volcanic soil and high altitude. Pod Chocolate is unique because of the way it respects its farmers and treats them fairly, which they believe is the key to producing the highest quality chocolate possible.

The chocolate factory offers daily tours that demonstrate how they make chocolate, taking guests on a journey starting with the cocoa tree, followed by a tour of the little factory and then allowing visitors to make their very own chocolate elephants to take home, which they can decorate with any toppings they wish. Of course it couldn’t be a chocolate tour without plenty of tastings throughout, and visitors are invited to sample raw cocoa fruit and roasted beans, and then try their scrumptious final products, such as strawberry rose chocolate, chili ganache, mango passionfruit and sea salt caramel. And just a warning, once you try these amazing treats you won’t be able to stop yourself from buying loads to take home! The tour starts hourly from 10 – 3 daily and takes about two hours in total.

If you somehow still feel a bit peckish after the tour, head over to the café where you can relax, watch the chocolate masters at work and enjoy a yummy lunch. Be sure to finish off with their unbelievable homemade ice cream – it has to be tasted to be believed!
