Guests have been have ohming, stretching and detoxing their way to inner peace at Shankari’s Yoga Retreat since 1994, which makes them one of the most established yoga and wellness retreats on the island of the gods. The yoga retreat is set in beautiful rainforest surrounds on the banks of the Sacred Balian River and about a 15 minute walk to the beach.

Shankari’s has accommodation and facilities for up to 30 people making it the perfect location for yoga retreats, workshops or events. Each room is individually styled based on the spiritual themes Lotus, Ganesha, and Kundalini, and feature secluded verandas, ornate Balinese carvings and high pitched ceilings.

But you don’t have wear baggy yoga pants or be on a wellness retreat to enjoy the serenity of Shankari’s. Just like a regular hotel, you can book a bungalow and take advantage of the garden setting, the nearby Balian Beach (a popular surf spot) or simply enjoy the three swimming pools and character-filled retreat.

If you would like to dabble in a Downward-Facing Dog or two, there is a daily class that you can join for a small fee (IDR 100,000 at the time of writing). Or if you’re more of a self paced yogi, there are two yoga spaces available for use. The retreat has a range of packages if you would like to take your Yoga to the next level, or even train to become a yoga teacher.

The on-site Blue Lotus Café serve up Indonesian, Chinese and Western treats all day. And they also whiz up a mean juice. As you would expect at a yoga and wellness retreat, those on a vegetarian, organic or raw food diet won’t be disappointed. In fact, the café can cater to almost any dietary requirement with a bit of warning.

Shankaris Bali Retreat is located in Suraberata, about 90 minutes North-West of Denpasar Airport in the Tabanan Regency. Bookings and enquiries can be made by phone or email.

Whatever the purpose of your visit, Shankari’s Bali Retreat is a unique find and offers a relaxed setting away from those busy tourist hot-spots. Namaste.
