Taman Werdhi Budaya Art Centre is one of the most recognised hubs for cultural events in Bali, and its purpose is to preserve and exhibit Bali’s rich art and culture. The centre’s architecture reflects that of traditional temples and the Royal Palace, and combined with the beautiful gardens that surround the centre, the result is magnificent. The art centre was unveiled in 1976, and every year from June to July, it hosts the hugely popular Bali Arts Festival which presents a selection of traditional Balinese performances.
The art centre is comprised of several buildings, each with its own function. The Ardha Candra ampitheatre is located at its centre, and can seat up to 600 people. It is known for hosting many wonderful events, such as ballet, theatre and other performances. To the west is the Ksirarnawa theatre, an enclosed building that can accommodate 800 people, and to the north is the Kriya building, which serves to exhibit paintings, sculptures and handmade crafts. Besides these, the art centre has other buildings and facilities to assist in presenting works of art in Bali.
The best time to visit is during the Bali Arts Festival in June and July where visitors can enjoy all kinds of attractions, from Balinese songs, dances and art exhibitions to theatre performances and traditional Balinese cuisine. This time of the year is a flurry of activity, with huge crowds and loads of events. If you’re looking for a more peaceful experience, the rest of the year is the perfect time to visit.
